New AS/RS for beverage supplier in France

Constant flow

The new automated storage and retrieval system for Laiterie de Saint Denis de l'Hôtel near Orleans will go live in the summer of 2009.

It will offer the beverage packaging and bottling specialist 10,296 storage locations for 7,728 Euro pallets and 2,568 ISO pallets. The steel construction represents one of the special features of the rack-supported structure. Due to its height of over 25 meters (82 ft.), it had to be designed in such a way that the facility would collapse in on itself in the event of fire rather than break apart in different directions, which would endanger the surrounding buildings. In France, this structural measure is a legal requirement and compliance must be confirmed and proved with a corresponding certificate.
The four-aisle system is operated with automatic viapal storage and retrieval machines with double-deep telescopic shuttle fork. According to customer request, fire extinguishing systems were integrated in each of the on-board control cabinets. This is an additional safety measure since the auxiliary load units are made of wood and synthetic materials. Being the general contractor, viastore also supplied the conveyor system including control, the material flow system and the system visualization. The material flow computer was connected to the customer's existing warehouse management system via an interface.

Laiterie de Saint Denis de l'Hôtel has been successfully operating in the market for more than 50 years now. Originally solely engaged in the milk bottling business, the family-owned company has been specializing in the sterile filling and packaging of beverages of all types since the 1980s. For instance, the portfolio includes milk, fruit juices and special diet products. The AS/RS for Laiterie de Saint Denis de l'Hôtel is another important viastore project in the French beverage industry, following the one built for Eaux Minerales de St. Alban Les-Eaux.
