HPPS - High Performance Picking System

Maximum efficiency order picking
HPPS - High Performance Picking System - is a high performance picking system with which orders are compiled quickly, effectively and ergonomically in distribution centers. The system efficiently guides the picker and clearly indicates how much of what it should be removed. Replenishment and disposal of the removal container occurs completely automatically.
The containers are generally tilted toward the picker. They can then reach into the container in an ergonomic position. This shortens gripping time and makes work less tiring.
The order picker works based on a principle known as „goodstoman“ in a manageable area. The fully automated, needbased change of parts reduces the required staging area at the front of the shelf for the parts to be picked. The system is controlled and optimized by the WMS.
Up to 40 % more effective than conventional:
- fully automatic storage container handling
- reduced walking distances due to condensed
pick areas - ergonomic storage container position
- short training time for staff
Up to a 70% smaller floor space required compared to manual systems:
- integrated replenishment buffer
- multiple pick levels
- no inbound or outbound lanes for stored or
picked material, or empty containers - modular scalability from 5,000 to
50,000 accesses per shift - guaranteed system availability in excess
of 98 %
The benefits for you:
- fast, ontime order processing
- high productivity
- superior customer service
- high competitiveness
Intelligent combination of mechanics and software
Special load handling device: For viaspeed and viaspeed XL, we developed a double-deep load handling device which can tilt to the incline of the flow rack to pass containers in the picking area and retrieve them again. This enables fully automatic supply and removal of the inclined picking channels. The benefit: the picker can fully concentrate on his work. He saves a lot of time because he does not need to slide back or remove the empty carriers. In addition, he works ergonomically, has short distances and minimal handling effort.
Carton pre-calculation: Depending on the range and volume of parts, viad@t WMS calculates the appropriate carton size required. The optimal shipping class is already considered for this. This becomes particularly important for gaining efficiency in the pickpack process.
Carton start: viad@tWMS simultaneously calculates the maximum throughput of the system and the processing times of the orders including the target utilization.
Picking procedures: Select the picking method that best fits your needs. Depending on the range of parts, the picking volume and the handling requirements, various pick methods can be combined.
- fast and powerful viaspeed or viaspeed XL storage/retrieval (S/R) machines for containers
- tilting carriage and load-handling device used for automatically loading containers into and removing them from the sloped pick faces and
the horizontal reserve storage locations - three ergonomically located pick levels for the order picker
- pick channels are equipped with pick-by-light displays
Dynamic supply: The warehouse material is dynamically provided for picking depending on statistical data, the current order structure and the utilization of the system. The active part spectrum is buffered for example the daily supply for the picking or the entire part spectrum. This enables short replacement times for replenishment or when changing parts. The operation of all picking areas is optimized. The storage and retrieval machine supplies the ergonomically inclined gripping channels from the horizontal replenishment compartments.
