Balluff upgrades and expands its logistics center

Sensor system supplier Balluff GmbH, headquartered in Neuhausen near Stuttgart (Germany), has entrusted viastore with the reconstruction and expansion of its logistics center which was built by a third-party supplier in the year 2000.

Initially Balluff had engaged viastore as a consultant to draw up a modernization concept for the existing facility. The multi-stage viastore concept convinced the sensor specialist. The first modernization stage included the construction of an annex in 2006. Here viastore supplied the conveyor equipment including control system and mechanics as well as the material flowsystem. Recently Balluff decided to restructure all processes, using the viad@t material flow control system as well as the viad@t warehouse control system (WCS) to eliminate the performance problems of the old facility. The WCS is coupled to the old WMS via an IDoc interface; communication is with SAP. The final expansion stage will be the direct coupling of the WCS to the SAPmodule WM via the IDoc interface. Prior to this the automatic mini-load system will be expanded from four to seven aisles. Here viastore will supply the IT equipment, the conveyor system, the steel construction and the S/R machines.
