Largest cold storage service provider in North America

Americold, North America’s largest service provider for temperature-controlled logistics, has commissioned viastore to build a new automatic storage facility at its Indianapolis plant. With its wide range of customers and products, Americold needs a logistics concept that is extremely flexible and efficient. To meet this requirement, viastore developed a cost-effective, energy-saving solution consisting of a high-bay warehouse with six roughly 34-meter-high viapal storage and retrieval machines. The facility accommodates a total of 21,000 pallets.

The building is designed for both deep-freeze storage and cold storage. The automatic storage and retrieval machines transport the goods to multilevel pick stations that are integrated into the rack structure. Storage and retrieval are handled by a dynamic pallet conveyor system which transports pallets with entire orders from the warehouse to the shipping area. The viad@t warehouse management system manages the warehouse and controls the flow of material. The integrated energy concept viastore blue ensures energy-efficient travel throughout the system plus energy recovery.

Americold is a leading supplier of temperature-controlled warehouse and logistics services for the food industry. The company operates 182 temperature-controlled warehouses in the USA, Australia, China, Argentina and Canada, with a total warehouse volume of more than 28 billion cubic meters.
