IT Senior System Administrator

Location in Grand Rapids, Michigan

The main goal of the IT Senior System Administrator is to oversee the entire IT landscape of viastore SYSTEMS Inc. The employee is part of the first-level support for all viastore internal IT topics and thus the first point of contact for support inquiries.

In addition to the daily IT tasks, the coordination and implementation of internal projects is also part of the job profile.

Essential Job Functions

  • First-level support for viastore employees
  • Implementation of workplaces and telecommunications (PC / laptop, monitor, network cabling, phones)
  • Implementation and support of meeting room / meeting equipment
  • Support of the telephone system (extensions, forwarding, ...)
    • Supervision of the complete client and server lifecycle management
    • Procurement, installation, software installation, repairs, disposal
    • User Problems
  • Security Issues: Windows Updates, Virus Scanners
  • Creation, testing and rollout of new software packages
  • Support for printers / fax machines and their print servers
  • Supervision of end user / workstation software, including
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Microsoft Teams
    • Autodesk products
    • Rockwell Automation Software
  • License management for client and server software
  • Support of physical and virtual server components (server hardware, storage hardware, server software)
  • Support of network components (LAN, WLAN, switches)
  • Supervision of firewall systems and VPN connections
  • Administration of VMware hypervisor and VM’s
  • Administration of server systems based on Windows
  • Administration Windows domain environment
  • Supervision of the Microsoft Exchange e-mail system (monitoring, error analysis, mailboxes, anti-spam)
  • Administration of application software which is hosted by and managed by viastore Germany (SAP, SuperOffice, LoboDMS, viastore homepage, ...)
  • Supervision of all backup systems
  • Administration of database systems
  • Documentation and monitoring of the system landscape
  • Project management for internal projects
  • Configuration and troubleshooting of remote connections to customers and partners

Required Education and Experience

Successfully completed training as IT specialist, systems integrator or comparable training

  • 5-7 years practical experience in a similar position
  • Sound knowledge of
    • Server and client administration
    • Windows operating systems
    • Terminal Servers
    • LAN and WAN techniques
    • Firewall
    • VMware
  • Basic knowledge of
    • Database systems (Oracle, MS-SQL)
    • ERP, CRM, ECM systems
    • Script Programming
  • Proficient in security standards and practices
  • Experience in project management

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Design Industrial Networks, troubleshoot networks, assess and ensure network security (internal or external)
  • Administer Linux and Windows servers
  • Design, implement, and support deployment including virtualization and containerization
  • Manage network, hardware, and OS security
  • Develop web apps
  • Procure project hardware (handhelds, switches, workstations…)
  • DevOps experience
