IT Project Manager

The role of the IT Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize the IT portions of projects according to deadlines and within budget. Additionally, the IT project manager will oversee all functional and technical requirements surrounding the software and system hardware. The Project Manager will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle. The goal is for the IT project manager to focus on software only projects. There may be occasions where they will manage integrated systems projects as well. The IT project manager may be assigned multiple projects in parallel based on the size of each job.

  • IT project planning

    • Develop goals and objectives
    • Define IT project team makeup
    • Create IT schedule (MS project plan)
    • Develop materials for client planning meeting
    • Run client project kick-off meeting
    • Develop or oversee creation of functional specification
    • Develop or oversee creation of technical design
    • Develop system hardware/3rd party software requirements (director will order equipment in SAP)
    • Develop or manage creation of test plan
    • Manage set-up and configuration of system hardware / 3rd party software
    • Manage and participate in internal and external software testing
    • Manage and participate in training
    • Manage getting training materials created
    • Develop training plan
    • Manage execution of training
    • Manage and participate in software commissioning
    • Develop commission plan
    • Manage execution of commissioning
    • Manage and participate in start-up support
    • Develop support plan
    • Participate in start-up
    • Manage project closure and hand-off to customer service

  • Project administration

    • Manage schedule and resources
    • Create weekly project status
    • Execute week project meeting with client
    • Execute client communications
    • Manage teams time entry
    • Create monthly forecast report
    • Create / update ISO9000 forms
    • Manage accounts receivable with client
    • Create change order documents
    • Create materials and execute lessons learned meeting
    • Director will manage ISO9000 tasks


  • The ability to manage multiple projects and people.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the company.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The performance of this position may require exposure to customer locations which may include warehouse or manufacturing areas. These may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to touch, handle, type or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel Requirements           

Ability to travel 15% to 25% per year.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from a four-year college or university and/or 8 or more years of related industry experience.
  • Proficient in MS Project.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • SAP familiarity is a plus

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of material handling systems including AS/RS, conveyor, controls, and software and their application to warehousing, distribution, and manufacturing
  • The IT project manager will be expected to keep up with the trends in IT technology
